The park and us ...
Why is it that our Grand Street entrance is separated from the park (between 504 and Hillman)? If our gate opened onto the park I'm sure many more people would use it ... It's a nice space and tragically underused. Does anyone know the history?
Yes, its unfortunate not to have use of this space directly. Originally Sheriff Street it was closed during the Superblock phase of New York neighborhood betterment. Our entry "ramp" was what is left of the sidewalk. Security has told me it is open from time to time, from Broome Street. For years, the older neighbors who sit in the triangle across from the pharmacy used it frequently....maybe the concrete is repellent in its new state.
